10 Fun Things to do in Brownwood, TX

It’s no big secret that there are so many cool places to visit in Texas – the list is endless.

After reading about some neat things to do in Brownwood, Texas, we decided to head off for the weekend and see what this small town had to offer. If you’re looking for an easy weekend trip from the DFW area, consider Brownwood. We chose to stay at the Best Western Plus Riata - the location was close to everything we were going to do and the staff was sweet, definitely have no complaints.

Here’s what to do when you get there:

1. Dine in an authentic train car: Runaway Cafe

Truly a unique and popular cafe! Don't miss out on the "2018 Best Diner in Brown County." Runaway Train Cafe is a converted train car that has some of the friendliest staff and an amazing old school diner menu.

2. Visit the Martin & Frances Lehnis Railroad Museum

This place is a great store of information and a good place to see mini trains in huge layouts! You can actually board a caboose and sleeper car as well!

3. Shop like a local

What's a road trip without a little shopping and getting to see what the town has to offer? Detailing the fun shops we went into below:

Dazzling Diva's : Women's clothing boutique

Earth and Noble: Women's clothing boutique

Intermission Bookshop: Independent bookshop in Downtown, Brownwood

4. Catch a show or screening at the historic Lyric Theatre

Here is an awesome opportunity to see local talent entertain you. They also bring in wonderful shows and musical opportunities. We caught a screening of a Texas Short called "I've got your 6" by TX filmmaker Bill Foster.

5. Indulge in craft cocktails and fine dining at Turtle Enoteca

The atmosphere at the Turtle is so unique and relaxing. The service, food, and drinks are exceptional. I would recommend if you’re looking for a special place to dine or drink.

6. Kayak down the Pecan Bayou

Hands down a favorite activity - especially if the weather isn't too hot! Rent your kayak from Bayou Kayak Rentals and get to exploring! We spent a good 2 hours out in the Bayou and loved it!

7. Mingle with the locals and try out a flight of beer or two

Nothing quite like friendly folk and good brews! Teddy's Brewhaus is located in a beautifully renovated historic downtown building offering a relaxed atmosphere. Don't miss out on the pizza either - it pairs fantastic with the brews.

If you're looking for live music we hear Pioneer Tap House is the place to go!

8. Dine in an old school cafeteria at Underwood's Bar-B-Q

If you're from Texas and like hot rolls and cobbler, then head on over to the historic Underwood's! The food was pretty good, and the staff does such a good job making sure you're taken care of. Great all around atmosphere.

9. Play golf at The Hideout Golf Club and Resort

Stephen's favorite part here! Overall fantastic golf course- the fairways were in very good shape and there were helpful staff everywhere.

10. Sip local wine and mingle with the owners of Spirit of Texas Winery

Every detail inside the place had a story! Owners Bryan and Moira couldn’t have been more friendly and welcoming - they took the time to tell us about the history of the place while pouring delicious wine flights. We can’t wait to come back!

One thing we didn't get to do was visit Lake Brownwood - that's something you'll have to check out for yourself and let me know what you think! For more information on what to do in Brownwood check out VisitBrownwood.com!

Until next time,
